Meagher County Now Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions: The Following Acts are Prohibited;.

1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using any outdoor fire including, but not limited to campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, fused explosives, fireworks, and.

2. Smoking, except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials, and

3. Any other activity that poses a significant risk of starting a fire, including welding, or using a cutting torch.

Stage 1 Exemptions:

1. Persons with a written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise prohibited act.

2. Persons using a fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG that can be turned on and off. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the device.

3. Persons conducting activities in those designated areas where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice.

4. Any Federal, State, or Local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

5. All and within the boundaries of a separate municipality (City of White Sulphur Springs)


1. You could be fined up to $500 and imprisonment up to 6 months for violating restrictions and closures pursuant to MCA 46-18-212.

2. You can be held liable for all suppression costs and damages if you start a fire.
